Commemorating the USEPA's 40th Anniversary
11.29.10 4:13 PMThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was founded on December 2, 1970. Over its 40-year history, the USEPA has become the world's preeminent environmental regulatory agency. Various events have been planned throughout the week to recognize this historic anniversary. The commemoration was kicked off by the release of a report by The Aspen Institute, a group of more than 20 environmental thought leaders, listing ten ways the USEPA has strengthened America over its history. Highlights include removing lead from gasoline and the air, removing acid from rain, controlling toxic substances, and rethinking waste as materials. The entire report can be found here. Additional images, discussion of important USEPA milestones, and details of upcoming events, can be found on the USEPA's EPA@40 webpage.
