Our very own Bill Penny has been selected to represent the interests of the Home Builders Association of Tennessee in a new committee formed to study and develop a plan for comprehensive water planning in Tennessee.

House Bill No. 1972 was enacted earlier this year to create a

“special joint committee to study and  develop ways and means to implement comprehensive water planning in Tennessee…”

The committee has been given the responsibility of studying all aspects of water supply, water conservation, drought preparedness, etc.  The carefully chosen group of members consists of representatives from across the State and spans across industries.  In addition to six members of the Legislature, the committee shall include representatives from the following:

  • Home Builders Association of Tennessee
  • Tennessee Association of Utility Districts
  • Tennessee Municipal League
  • Tennessee County Services Association
  • Tennessee Farm Bureau
  • Tennessee Development District Association
  • Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and
  • a residential customer of a public water system.

The committee is to report its findings and proposed legislation at the latest on February 1, 2010.
