Last week, the Executive made big strides towards the greenification of the United States… one Federal building at a time (there are 500,000 of them).

The White House reports that President Obama signed an “Executive Order” setting forth a host of improvements to be attained by 2020. Among other things, the Order mandates:

  • 2020 GHG emissions reduction target within 90 days
  • an increase in energy efficiency
  • a reduction in fleet petroleum consumption
  • the conservation of water
  • the reduction of waste
  • the support of sustainable communities
  • the leveraging of Federal purchasing power to promote green products and technologies
