posted by On September 22, EPA Administrator signed the Final Mandatory Reporting of Greenhouse Gases Rule. Among other things, the rule requires certain entities to report greenhouse gas emissions if the emissions are greater than twenty-five thousand (25,000) metric tons.
What entities will be affected? The rule applies mainly to suppliers of fossil fuels, suppliers of industrial greenhouse gases, manufacturers of vehicles and engines, and any other facilities whose emissions are greater than the threshold. The EPA estimates there will be around ten thousand (10,000) affected facilities.
What gases are covered? Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, sulfur hexafluoride, and other fluorinated gases including nitrogen trifluoride and hydrofluorinated ethers.
When will it become effective? The Rule is slated to go into effect on January 1, 2010.
