The Chattanooga Area Reduces Smog
05.31.11 2:24 PMToday, USEPA announced that the Chattanooga area now meets the 1997 federal fine particulate matter standard. The Chattanooga area includes Hamilton County, Tennessee, in its entirety; Catoosa and Walker Counties, Georgia, in their entireties; and a portion of Jackson County, Alabama. This result represents the coordinated and dedicated work of local, state, and federal agencies, private partners, and roughly 520,000 citizens in the Chattanooga area.
As we mentioned in March when the Knoxville area achieved attainment with this standard, this news is great for Tennessee and the region.
